食得是福

Lo and behold, my first post for 2012! The past month had been eventful... and nope, I have not fully settled down, for I am moving, yet again, to the capital city of Malaysia to embark on yet another new journey of life this Friday. Lots of settling down to do, eh?

Nevertheless, it's one rare peaceful night, so I thought I'd sit down and start clearing the "blogging debts" piled under my Saved Drafts. Can you believe that these photos were supposed to be blogged when I'm still doing my industrial attachment almost a quarter of a year ago? My blogging debts are gonna be in the same league as my sleep debts soon. Tsk tsk.

And what could be better than having a food post to kickoff 2012 in my blog, as a sign of fullness and prosperity in this new year! As the title of this post has it - to eat is a kind of blessing/fortune. :D

My friends and I were fans of Japanese cuisine, so we tend to have it once in a blue moon a while.

Dinner with my ex-housemate Justin; I especially liked that sauteed mushrooms dish.

Heavy lunch with YN.

I vaguely remember we were so full from the dishes above that this maki roll had to be brought home for dinner. LOL.

Sometimes, when I ran out of ideas on what to eat, I pack my own lunch to office.

Healthy and nice. :D

Or, I cook noodles for dinner when I reach home after work.

Yeah, the noodles were not really visible because I tend to add lots of my favourite ingredients into the soup. Haha.

Long ago, I read this post by foongpc and knew that I had to try it. Since I didn't know the way and dared not drive into the city centre of KL, I invited Justin (who'd jump at any chance to try out new/good food) to try out this place together.

We were there even before the shop opened (that explains the many unoccupied seats, which were taken up half an hour after this picture was shot). Yeah, we were their very first customers of the day!

Justin had the Hainanese chicken chop whilst I tried the famous roti babi and half-boiled eggs. We both had a good ol' cup of Hainanese kopi-O. *burps*

Sinfully nice with Worcestershire sauce.

And guess what? We returned the next day after 10.30am for their roast pork which would only be served then. Haha. And it was so packed that we had to queue to share a table with other patrons! As I didn't have the camera (yeah, my Yut Kee photos were taken using Justin's camera), I can't show any photos.

One memorable incident did happen though. Due to the very limited parking bays around the old school shop, many patrons parked illegally at the road side. Traffic police, being hardworking on a Sunday, suddenly came to issue summons to those cars. The son of the boss who was manning the cashier counter began shouting "Mata chao pai!!" (Cantonese: police issuing summons) on top of his lungs. And coherently, all the foreign (Myanmar, if not mistaken) workers chanted the same thing while still gracefully delivering plates of food to their rightful tables. In the blink of an eye, the shop became half empty! There were almost two drivers on each table who all went to shift their cars away. It was really a damn funny sight. Hahahaha~

And that makes up part of my culinary adventures during my short stint in KL last year. Hehe. I shall end this post entitled 食得是福 with yet another wish for the new year - 丰衣足食 (Chinese: sufficient clothes and food). =)
