Ice Age 3 & a fucked up neighbour

Wow. When was the last double post I did? Haha.

In case I didn't somehow mention it, I drove back to Ipoh yesterday noon. Spent half the day talking to my mum and watched two movies - The Prince & Me and A Cinderella Story - at night.

Last night I bought 5 movie tickets online for today afternoon.

Yeah, at 2.10pm, my family and I went to TGV Kinta City to catch this latest animation - Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. I would say the animation and the humour is not bad, but the storyline isn't really fresh, except the dinosaurs. It's not the first time Sid the sloth becomes jealous over something and later gets into the trouble. Hmm... perhaps the storyboard writer should come up with something new for the sequel, if there is any. Haha.

Went home after the movie and slept (I don't know why am I sooooo tired) until it was dinner time. Ate out and went back where my dad watched the 8pm news. After that, my dad drove my car and while my mum drove hers to the petrol station. After refilling my car with petrol, I drove my car back while my dad filled up my mum's car.

There was a car parking on my slot (outside the house, between #9 and #11) so I manoeuvred my car to the space between #5 and #7). After I was done, I turned off the car lights and was about to switch off the engine when one of the tenants of the #5 house turned into the lane. As I retrieved my dad's water bottle and my wallet, that black Hyundai Getz honked me. I ignored it, and he continued honking. I got down the car and looked at him. HE ACTUALLY HAD THE GUTS TO ASK ME SHIFT MY CAR AWAY BECAUSE I'M PARKING AT "HIS" SPOT. Wtf?!

Hello? That spot is not inside your house and it is not marked your spot, what gives you the right to ask me to move? Moreover, I CAME FIRST! I nicely explained that there's a car at my regular spot and he retorted that he is staying in #5 so he should park at "his" spot. He said he is not going out anymore and asked me to move my car to the spot between #3 and #5. He's staying at #5 and he can't park between #3 and #5 but I'm staying further down but it's okay for me to park there? Wtf x2?!

Since he didn't recognize me, I regretted for not quarreling with him but just shifted my car away to the front of my gate after my mum came back. I tolerated because my family are still gonna stay in this house and god knows for how long we'll be seeing that fucked up fella. What if he is such a petty fella that he somehow or rather disturbs my family?

My mum said it's not worth to be angry over an ignorant fella like him, so my anger will subside after this post surfaces in the blogosphere. I just need a channel to vent my frustrations and I'm done. Thank you. =)

I Am A Big Tree

Last Tuesday - due to assignments and stuff - was the first time I broke down this semester. I called my mum for 45 minutes. Then I decided to talked to Ms G, my UAMP 1004 lecturer last semester, so I sent her an SMS, asking her out. Unfortunately she was busy that night so a dinner date was arranged for Wednesday.

I picked her up after class, and off we went to some hawker centre in old town, where no UTAR student will be spotted, according to her. I talked to her about my current predicament that revolves around my assignment group members, my thoughts, my views, my thinking, etc.

She listened to me and shared her experiences, thoughts and views. Her advice about my current situation about my members not performing up to my expectations was to "do more yourself". Take all the important parts myself and leave those unimportant parts for them. And tolerate. That's it. Nothing else, because I don't want to let their low standard pull me down.

She taught me how to handle my group members - "Gentle as a dove, sly as a serpent." I must be gentle with them but at the same time, think wisely while going around and about to achieve my goals. Since they're not on par with me, I have to undertake the task of pushing them, listing down each and everything I want to do, despite how tiring it can make me. I must be assertive but at the same time, exert great care on their feelings.

She said that I am a big tree. While I grow taller, stronger and branch out, I must not deprive the little seedlings beneath my shade of their sunlight, water, worms and birds. I must make sure they have the necessities to survive, not step on and kill them while I continue to grow even stronger. Otherwise at the end, people will only see me as a lone big tree, not a big tree where many other small trees grow beautifully under me. And that, is how a good leader should be - with many beautiful small trees beneath its branches while being strong and outstanding as ever itself.

Indeed, a lot of food for thought. At the end when we were about to leave, she said to me, "其实你已经有了答案,你只是要找人听你诉苦而已". Hmm. Not really so, I suppose. I had the tinge of hope that perhaps she had other better suggestions. But since that was the best solution, I'll just have to accept it.

The reason I turned to Ms G was because i) we do not have a generation gap; ii) she is a nice person to talk to; iii) I think she might have been in my shoes before (and indeed she did); and iv) I think she really cares. I think it is really fate to have met her in Kampar, after everything that had happened last year. She, a devout Christian, said God sent her to teach in Kampar. Me, a non-Christian, should really say thanks to her God for sending her. It was through her that I found my confidence back last semester and now, motivation and consolation.

I felt so comfortable after talking to her, although I know there's nothing I can do to rectify my current situation but to continue suffering for the sake of my own grades. But I know someone really understands. I know someone cares. I know someone supports me. I know someone is praying for me.

Thank you, Ms G. You have certainly made an impact in my life. It is my honour to be taught by you, and I appreciate all the times we shared together - on or off campus. ^^

A screwed week

Finally, after two consecutive sleepless nights, despite 50% of what I've done is incorrect and needs to be redone, I can take some time off from academic stuff and slack my Friday night away.

After a group discussion regarding the UAMA 1004 assignment on Monday night, I assigned tasks to everyone in my group except 10ni (because she wasn't there and we forgot about her until I was done with distributing the tasks, so she'll have more to do during the second assignment *lol*) and gave them a deadline of Wednesday night before midnight.

I waited patiently (well, that was partially due to me giving my UAMG 1004 individual assignment its finishing touches) until 2am and messaged Bernice, "Excuse me, what time is it now?". Then only she sent half of the tasks I assigned to her and LT. Never mind, better than nothing, I told myself, at least I can start looking into what they have done first.

I opened the file upon receiving it, and immediately after the first glance, I felt like crying. Do I look like a waste disposal centre? Why do people always give me rubbish? We have discussed most of the points to write and all they had to do was to put those ideas into sentences and paragraphs. And the worst thing was, they copied our seniors' report!!

I was like, wtf?! As an ordinary student, I was able to sense that the piece was plagiarised. Do they think that lecturers are blind fools? Hey, come on, if you want to steal ideas from seniors, at least steal it tactfully. Moreover, the group that they copied from earned one of the highest marks last semester and the group members are somewhat "famous" in their batch. So, you'd think that the lecturer wouldn't know? I'd chop my head down for you if the lecturer doesn't. Pfft.

Never mind, remembering what my UAMP 1004 lecturer, Ms G has shared with me during dinner on Wednesday (will definitely write about this in a separate post), I proceeded to undertake everything and unscrew the assignment. No point asking them to redo because i) they didn't have the heart to do it well; ii) they didn't really know how to do it (if they knew they wouldn't have given me such bullshit right?); and iii) I think and I know I can do it way better than them.

So I spent two nights without sleep, working frantically on what was supposed to be done by 5 people. I finally got it done at 5.30am this morning, but I didn't go to sleep because if I did, I wouldn't wake up in time for my 8am lecture. I was tired, but I had no choice. Thankfully Angelyn's part was okay so I just restructured her sentences and it wasn't too long before I was done with her.

When we consulted our tutor during tutorial later in the morning, I got to know that the direction we were heading was kinda correct but we were still not there. Yet. Our tutor looked through our draft report and commented that about half the thing was incorrect. Damn. Two nights down the drain and I only had half of it right. Double damn.

They seemed concerned about what went wrong and asked me what to do next. I thought that there was no point to reassign the stuffs to them because if I hadn't redo whatever they had given me it'd be 100% wrong. Even with my standard (without prior guidance from the lecturer/tutor) I could only get half wrong. What's more, they didn't even understand whatever the tutor wanted when she was explaining to us! So it'd be my one-man show again. This is my destiny which I have to acknowledge. =X

Anyway, after lunch I was so tired that I decided against driving back to Ipoh when tonight's assignment discussion with KK was cancelled around 4pm and plopped right onto my bed which I hadn't touched for more than 48 hours. Woke up to notice my silenced phone blinking in the dark and found Bernice outside my house. OMG I had slept for 4 hours!

We wanted to cook something simple for dinner but I forgot to defrost the minced meat. So I just cooked the leftover pearl oyster mushroom in boiling water, added some sesame oil, soy sauce and pepper and shared it with her before going out for dinner, since the fishballs were already spoilt and we didn't want the mushrooms to spoil.

After collecting her luggage, we picked up 10ni, Belinda and Jess and off we went to the market in old town for dinner. Sent Bernice to the bus station and accompanied her to wait for the bus to Kuantan after dinner. I suggested yum cha or strolling along Westlake but they all asked me to go home and get enough rest, since I am going to drive back to Ipoh tomorrow.

I know this is just the beginning of my nightmare. 8 more weeks to go. I must survive. Buddha bless me.

The I-think-it's-the last relaxing weekend

Hid at home for the whole of Saturday, having Campbell chicken soup + macaroni for lunch and dinner besides the chocolate brownie from Belinda's birthday dinner + green tea for high tea. I was waiting for my inspiration to come to start on my UAMG 1004 individual assignment.

On Sunday, I woke up and noticed something not so right with my hair despite having slept face down for the past two nights. I grabbed a few strands from both left and right sides and got a shock of my life - my hair ends are crooked! See~~~

Yeah, it's just the ends. Above the ends, my hair is still straight. If you see it from far, overall it is still straight, even after washing it for the first time yesterday. But since it is my hair meaning I can always hold and see it close up, I couldn't help but to notice the crooked ends. That's it - my hair is officially ruined. Certified by all my friends who have done rebonding before. Sucks.

Anyway, not that I can do anything about it now. No point go let the hairstylist fix it for the second time because it will hurt my hair a hell lot. But one thing I'm sure now - I won't go back to the same salon for rebonding; just a haircut is okay, but definitely not rebonding.

Lazy to drive out, I digged into my treasure chest stock of rations and found this to eat.

生面皇 - Noodle King! Bought a packet of 5 for the discounted price of RM9 in Tesco the other day. Yippee!

I love the texture of the thin noodles very much because it's not like the usual Maggi/Mamee/Cintan we eat. It tastes a bit like wantan mee, actually. I added some seaweed, making it even better. Haha.

See, I even did a close-up! :P

As for yesterday, went out for lunch with Bernice and 10ni, after which 10ni went to class while Bernice and I went to Tesco to do some shopping. We bought some stuff which we can whip up something simple for the week. And for dinner, we cooked yee mee - hers in plain soup, mine in tom yam. Hehe.

I used only tom yam paste, so it was acceptable but not to the extend of being as nice as those freshly-boiled tom yam (duh!).

All photos except the last one were taken using my dad's Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS15. The tomyam noodles was snapped using Bernice's Sony Ericsson K810i because I was too lazy to go upstairs to retrieve my camera. Haha.

Regarding assignments, certain things have happened and it's hard for me to take the blow alone. I cried over the phone for 45 minutes with my mum just now and it was so reassuring to hear her comforting consolation and advice.

It know, not everyone is like me. I can't expect them to think/be like me too.

It's okay... Never mind... 这是我的命水,我认... I will survive... I know it will... ^^

So much so for now. I think I won't be updating until the weekend again. Assignment calls. :(

Belinda's Birthday

Yesterday was Belinda's birthday. And I was the Planner of the Day.

Since the number of people included in my plan totaled to 6, we have no choice but to go in two cars. The birthday girl and her roommate, Jess had classes until 6.30pm, so I arranged that 10ni picked them from campus and drive straight to Ipoh with KK.

As for myself, I departed for Ipoh with Bernice after lunch with Ms G (my UAMP 1004 lecturer of last semester). And why did I go so early? I needed a few hours to fix my hair.

Slight digression 1: My rebonded hair screwed up! After I washed it on Monday - just three days after I got in straigtened - the curls and waves turned up again! My friends were condemning so terribly about it until I got kinda pissed (not with them but with my hair). So I called the hairstylist and he said he would redo it (for free of course!) for me. And since the earliest I could go back is after Friday's classes, I had an appointment made for Friday afternoon. And now it's straight - but let's not jump into conclusions too soon. Who knows it'd return to the original state after I wash it on Monday. And if it does, I'm so not going back to that saloon for rebonding!

Slight digression 2: When I was in the saloon, I received a call from my dad. HE SAW MY CAR!!! Yeah they didn't know I went back to Ipoh. Luckily I did not lie when he asked where was I. So I just told him we were here to celebrate a friend's birthday. Phew.

Slight digression 3: After I got my hair fixed, we still had an hour before our reservation of 7.30pm. So I drove back home and chatted a while with my parents. Wanted to dump my laundry at home, but since my dad won't be going to KL next week, meaning he can't drop by and return me my stuff, my dirty clothes just got a free trip from Kampar to Ipoh and back to Kampar again. LOL.

Bernice and I went to Beacon Point cafe at 7.30pm sharp but the rest including the birthday girl were late for half an hour due to the traffic jam at the Simpang Pulai compulsory toll. So much so for not having Touch 'N Go card.

Slight digression 4: I was so hiong at the Simpang Pulai toll yesterday! The traffic was heavy and the queues were confusing. Unfortunately, many cars including myself ended up at the wrong lane, meaning we have to "cut" into the lane on our left to go through the toll. The Perdana V6 beside me was a complete moron. So I had to let him past first. Then I tried to "seep" in behind him. And guess what? The car behind him was a police car! @.@ But thankfully the policemen didn't pressure me nor force the car closely behind the V6 but let me cut in instead. *amitabha*

After they had arrived, the details were no longer important because what matters now is... FOOD! Yeah~ :D

Soup of the Day which is included in every set dinner.

And the garlic bread that came with it.

Sunshine - blend of fresh orange + lemon. Sourly refreshing indeed!

Jess and KK's grilled buttered chicken with onion sauce.

10ni's grilled chicken mushroom frenzy, or something like that. Can't really remember the name. Haha.

Belinda's black pepper chicken fajita...

... accompanied by these (some sauce, lettuce, cheese and tomatoes)...

... and this roti canai. What is it called? Tortilla?

The whole set. LOL.

Bernice's lamb shoulder with mint sauce.

And the mint sauce that came with it.

Last but not least, my herbs butterflied leg of lamb. Yeah, weird name I know. ;)

Needless to mention, all the food served were absolutely scrumptious! Else why'd we be here for three times this month and even chose this place as the venue to celebrate Belinda's birthday? Haha.

And before I went to have my hair redone, I dropped by at the cafe to reserve a table for 6 and to arrange the highlight of the night.

Which was this. Haha. A piece of every cake they had, arranged in circle on a plate, with the number of candles that signifies her age. (Clockwise from top: Carrot Walnut Cheesecake, Chocolate Moist, Coffee Marble Cheesecake, Blueberry Cheesecake, Peach Cheesecake and Lemon Poppyseed Cheesecake) This way we can taste most variety of cakes and yet not feel too full nor have a big hole burnt in our pockets. :D

I'm really, really pleased with the service because the staff were so cooperative. I just walked over to the counter after our main course (we packed the desserts to be brought home because we were simply too full) and signaled to the staff who was the birthday girl. When he served the cake to Belinda's seat, the Happy Birthday song substituted the light background music and almost everyone were singing along. :D

It was kinda pity though, because we were rushing for our next plan (the timing would have been perfect if they weren't caught in the jam at the toll T_T). They were literally swallowing the cakes instead of enjoying it by letting the spoonfuls melt in their mouths. Even KK the super hard-to-feel-full big eater "complained" about how full he always was whenever we dine in this cafe. Haha.

And why were we in such a rush?

Because I've bought (meaning already paid for) six 9pm tickets for Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen. Did I mention I purchased it online on Monday night? There were three screenings for Friday 9pm but when I clicked on the first session, it was already full! OMG~ without hesitation I paid for 6 back row seats of the second session, despite costing RM61 in total. Yeah, kiasu you might call me, but when I checked on Thursday night, even the extra fourth 9pm session was all sold out! They should thank me for my kiasuness, man! LOL~

And about the movie. Well yeah it's super nice, but maybe it lacks just a little bit of the surprise factor compared to its prequel because well... we'd already know Optimus Prime, the Decepticons and the super cool yellow Camaro which transforms into Bumblebee right? I mean, we'd know what most of these robots are capable of, so not as much surprise as the first movie. But then, I love the action and humour to the max! It's a pity Kampar doesn't have a cinema, else I don't mind watching it for the second time. Haha.

It was almost midnight when the credits rolled, and since Belinda was on the phone and Jess told me their class commences at 8am today, I decided to head back to Kampar. Who knows when we exited the Gopeng toll, 10ni called and said our next destination would be the mamak stall. Haha. And by the time I reached home, tired and having some kind of headache, it was almost 2am. =X

Next movie: Ice Age 3. Hope it can be planned for the coming Friday. And hope Ms G can join us. Hehe.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

I couldn't believe what I wore to dinner last night. Bareback! Without a jacket/shawl/anything to cover up. OMFG~!

Initially I wore a while spaghetti strap top covered with a black slightly-above-knee length, short-sleeved "coat" kinda thingy - which I seldom wear - to campus, since I plan to push off to Ipoh right after class. When Bernice and 10ni saw me, they were like commenting on how nice I look, blah blah blah and stuff. Then they moved on to criticizing how "peh" my normal attire of "oversized" t-shirts with jeans/long pants/short khakis were. Heck! My t-shirts aren't oversized; they're mere a bit baggier because it's more comfortable like that. Wtf man.

I don't deny I was really pissed. Who were they to comment on how I wear, just because they dress nicely to school? Yes, they can say that I have zero common sense when it comes to fashion, beauty and dressing up, but I don't see what's wrong with that. To me, as long as I'm clean, neat, tidy and presentable, it's fine. What for dress up like you're going to somewhere when you're just going to the campus?

I mean, the occasion determines how I dress up. If there are some events or functions, surely I'll dress nicer. If there is a presentation, my formal attire doesn't lose out to them. And I don't think my Prom Night outfit last semester is a total disaster. I looked not bad, remember?

And I think most of us should know how costly it is to maintain from top to toe. Hair - even rebonding alone costs some RM150-200, what's more with the products to maintain the hair. Facial and skincare products aren't cheap with the many types of products for many kinds of different functions; what about clothes, accessories and shoes? They think my dad prints bank notes huh? ~.~

So it all comes down to me wanting or not, to dress and make up heavily to go to campus, or be casual with a slightly baggy t-shirt and shorts. What for make myself uncomfortable with those tighter outfits? It's not like I will gain more marks if I dress to kill, right? So much so for being a girl who gets condemned when she doesn't dress up beautifully. Pfft.

Anyway, after the UAMA 1004 tutorial, we had a lot of time left so we went back to Bernice's house to reboil some overnight soup so that it won't spoil. 10ni said we should dress up nicely because we don't get the chance to do so often and suggested that we all go bareback. I said I do not have such tops, causing Bernice to dig into her closet and came out with one. And since they said we should 敢敢穿 (literally: dare dare wear), I gave it a try - with my "coat" thingy in campus and without it outside.

Okay lah I'd say I look different from the normal t-shirt jeans/short khakis but my arms looked like elephant leg fat. LOL. T_T

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Pardon me for the super long post. It is a very solid proof of how assignments have eaten into my life and how less time I have for my usual online activities - I tend to be very "talkative" in my blog. Haha.

Hair rebonded

LOL. This came as quite a surprise, because despite thinking about it and being advised to go for it by friends and other hairstylists for countless of times, I never did it as I did not get the green light from my mum and both of us were quite worried that the outcome would make me look with even lesser hair (yeah, I have very little hair already =X).

Yesterday I went to the salon to get a haircut. Before telling the hairstylist how I'd like my hair done, I asked for his advice. Straightaway he said I should either perm it or straighten it so that it won't be messy but instead become more manageable. I expressed my doubts of looking as though a thin layer of hair is sticking to my big round face but he said it won't. He further convinced my mum, who at the end consented to part with RM226 for the rebonding plus hair treatment.

Hmm. Long story cut short, it was a hot and cold experience. Hot when my hair was applied smelly(!) chemicals before straightened and cold when it was applied with something very minty for treatment. And the outcome? I'm liking it up to now - at least my hair doesn't simply curl up/out here and there nor is it frizzy - but won't jump into conclusions until Tuesday because I'm not supposed to wash my hair until Monday.

Will be driving back to Kampar tomorrow afternoon and I don't think I'll be back for the coming two months due to my many commitments such as midterms and assignments. So much so for allowing myself to have a longer weekend with the thought of being able to going home more often, unlike last semester when I have classes on Saturdays. And now I'm dedicating my long weekends to the silent killer a.k.a. assignments. -_-"

Busy weeks ahead

Exhausting. That's how I'd describe my life in university thus far. Yeah, my timetable is slowly killing me, although I did not regret having it fixed like that. It's just... energy-draining. Sighz.

I drove back to Ipoh today. I wanted to, from the very start, but my dad called last night and said he'll come pick me up. So after my class ended today, I called him to check what time he'll be arriving but was instead told to drive back myself. And so I did, secretly thanking Buddha I slept well and (quite) enough last night.

Assignments are pouring in and because of it I've become more selfish, cruel, heartless, coldblooded etc - whatever you name it - so as to protect myself and my group. On the other hand, however, I've also sensed some internal problems somewhere along the line of people kinda disapproving of how I execute my plans and stuff. Sorry to say though, that's me and my style. You either take it or leave it. Nobody asked you to come sticking to me. If you wanna stick to me, that's what you'll have to accept and endure. Period.

I got scared looking at my self-printed planner on which I've marked red the dates which happen to be deadlines of some sort. So far I've still got things under my control and I hope it remains this way. It's not easy though - too many assignments, too heavy their weightage, too many things to do and too less time. And I still stand by my principle of "there's nothing wrong with expecting perfection for my assignments". If I have the ability, why not?

Therefore ladies and gentlemen, don't miss me if I don't visit you for some time or if this space is left abandoned for a while. It merely means assignments had taken all of my time, probably those reserved for sleeping as well. Buddha bless me. =X

Funny fire drill

Today during our UAMP 1024 lecture, our lecturer told us that there will be a fire drill between 10am to 12pm.

OMG... fire drill?? In a university?? I don't mean there's no need to know where to run to in case of fire, but come on, we're all university students and have gone through enough fire drills in primary and secondary school to know that the first thing to do when the fire alarm rings is to take only our valuables, evacuate to the nearest safe place (like field/open air car park) and do a head count.

And that wasn't the funniest thing. At 5 or 10 minutes to 11am, someone announced through the PA system that "there will be a fire drill at 11am and *blah blah blah blah*..." OMG~ does UTAR have the ability to see into the future? Trust them to know what time there's going to be a fire?! The Chemistry students in the labs will say "Oh, this concoction is going to explode in 10 minutes' time, let's run after 5 minutes!"?! *lmao*

I mean, come on, in any normal day, you won't know when a fire is going to happen right? So why does your fire drill inform people of the time? The alarm should just go off anytime, unlike just now when all of us had packed our bags and was waiting patiently for the alarm before strolling out into the free space outside the building. -_-"

What a fire drilll... UTAR memang boleh!
